This weekend marked Adeline’s return to the World Cup following her injury at the end of last season. After a long rehabilitation period and a good preparation, the skier from Les Gets performed very well at the Aspen races in Colorado! With three races planned this weekend, Boulie was able to position herself and gain confidence for the rest of the season which already seems very exciting.
A top 10 position for her return to the giant slalom!
After landing in Colorado on November 20th to finalise her preparation, the skier from Les Gets could not wait to get back to the race. After good training sessions and feeling great, the giant slalom on Friday was the perfect time to compete against the other girls on the circuit. And the least we can say is that Boulie left her mark! After an average first run, the second run proved the great return of our champion at the highest level! After starting 19th, the young French skier was provisionally in first place with a great time. She finally finished in 10th position, with the fifth best time of the race, after the undefeatable Lara Gut, Eva-Maria Brem and Federica Brignone who were on the podium for this second giant slalom of the season.
The 11th position and a fall in slalom
Following the cancellation of the Levi races, two slaloms were scheduled on Saturday and Sunday. Starting off on the same basis as the previous day, Boulie did a perfect first run and finished provisionally in 5th position! The skier from Les Gets started the second run along with the best girls of the circuit, all with their eyes on the podium. On the second run, Adeline could not find the right rhythm to maintain her lead. Still, she finished 11th, just a hundredth of a second from another top 10 position! Way ahead with a lead of more than 3 seconds over Veronika Zuzulova, the American skier Mikaela Shiffrin won her first slalom of the season.
Physically tired after a busy weekend, Adeline finished 20th in the first Sunday run. With a very difficult track, the young French girl made a mistake during the second run. Shiffrin finished first again before Frida Hansdotter and Sarka Strachova.
Results which are more than positive for a comeback!
Boulie completes a returning weekend with great things to keep in mind for the rest of the season! Her skiing is here, her confidence is restored.
“When you come back after an injury, it is hard to admit you need to start from scratch. My goal was then to come back with the same results as last season’s. This is what I managed to do over the first two races by improving my results by a few positions in slalom (11th). It was incredible to see I was 5th of the first slalom run on the next day, I couldn’t believe it! On Sunday, my legs really were on fire at the bottom of the first run… I held on in order to finish this slalom but I made too many mistakes and I went out at the second run. I will not cry because I gained a lot of confidence: I will keep all the positive things that will help me build the rest of my season, and help me get even better! I need to keep calm and avoid skipping steps. The road is long and there is a whole world between a top 10 position and a podium!”
